First thoughts? Beautiful, gorgeous, cutting edge city, the city by the bay. Lets take a closer look at the city, for what you and your date can do for a fun day out on this gorgeous city.
The city was founded by the Spanish colonizers in 1776, It was a big part of the famous rush to be rich gold rush fever in American history. In 1906, it suffered the infamous earthquake - resulting in the city being rebuilt for what it is today. The city itself is between the Pacific Ocean on one side, and San Fran Bay on the other. It has some amazingly steep streets - see countless chase scene movies - and offers viewers iconic views of when you think San Francisco City - the Golden Gate Bridge, the bay itself, and of course the iconic and always in movies and crime shows - Alcatraz Prison.
Golden Gate Bridge You’re asking take my date to the Golden Gate Bridge? What’s to do there? Other than getting a great selfie, the bridge offers a few things - namely, you can walk over the bridge, or even better take a bike and ride across it with your date on a biking excursion. Best yet, pick the famous views on the ground around the bridge, to get the ultimate movie selfie. Best yet, recreate the best film shots of the bridge with you and your date in it.
What about taking your date to the city’s great modern art gallery SFMOMA. It was created in 1935 and has definitely played an influential part critics would argue on the west coast art style. You can find at the museum a multitude of styles - from objects of art, media art, architecture, and paintings. In total, the gallery says they have over 46,000 works of art. Quite impressive.
Once you arrive at the gallery you cant help but notice its architectural brilliance. Designed by a world renowned firm the building is impressive with 7 floors of gallery art with over 45,000 square feet to roam and investigate for you and your date. There are quite a few exhibits to explore. Lets look at the most recent ones shall we.
There is an interesting 60’s retro exhibit you may find interesting. Trying to immerse yourself in that time period with you and your date via pop art and other celebrated cultural art images and artifacts. Or, you could try the present wall mural exhibition. Originally commissioned during the covid pandemic, the wall art murals are for local artists to express whatever views they have politically, culturally, or emotionally. Always good to see street art elevated into a more respected space.
One of my favourites, and a must see at the art gallery is the Living Wall, the largest in the world of its kind. This wall of over 10,000 plants is surrounded by other works of art, and is a great place to step outside and see nature and art interact as one. A must see selfie photo with you and your date. After all this walking, and hopefully talking and bonding with your date, the gallery offers several sit down food choices, where you may want to take your date for a great bite to eat in a fantastic space to end your day. Sooner or later, your date may want to visit the famous Alcatraz island, and why not - it’s iconic as San Francisco street cars. Its affectionately referred to as the rock - which you can see with good reason - nothing more than a rocky island from afar. Originally it was used for the American military, then transformed into a prison in 1934. Many infamous criminals were housed here, as well as many famous films were made about the prison. What is most famous about the prison is the almost impossibility of escaping the prison due to its location - the water around it is very cold, and very difficult to swim in. The prison finally closed in 1963. In 1986, Alcatraz became a historic landmark. What can you and your date see and do at the prison? Well, first you have to take an interesting ferry ride to the island, from Pier 33. There you can explore and take a tour of the infamous prison when arriving. You can also see the older operating lighthouse in the whole country on the island. Also, keep a sharp eye on the seabirds while there - they have a colony of various species that make the day and date more interesting.
How about some of the beaten path and hidden gems for see and do with your date in San Francisco? Well here’s a few you may find interesting. Mescaline Grove is a perfect selfie moment with your date. Why so? Well, this tree, a Fern Dell, is massive and looks prehistoric in nature by its appearance. The paths around it seem quite strange, given it that name “Mescaline Grove”. It was actually planted in the late 1800’s and they plants come from New Zealand. A great way to start off the day by strolling the gardens of this area on your date in San Francisco. Another hidden gem is that San Francisco has a hidden waterfall hidden quite well, and not known other than by the locals. Its called Huntington Falls, and and is quite pretty - great for a cool walk and great selfie date picture. You can take a closer look at the falls by taking its bridge.
If you and your date are interesting in architecture - why not try this small walking path called the Russian Hill Lane District. While small, its importance in history is well known. Its a pathway for homes dating back all the way 1870’s. A nice place to visit and see yesteryear up close with you and your date. Would you like to visit a real life castle. Well, there is one in San Francisco that you can visit - its called Albion Castle. Originally a beer manufacturing plant - it was then shut down due to prohibition laws. It changed hands many times, and now it is not open to the public. But you can pass by and take a selfie if your in the neighbourhood. An interesting part of San Francisco lore and history.
If you and your date love birds, then you must see the gorgeous and colourful parrots of the city. A flock of parrots are called a pandemonium - something to impress your date with when you point out the large flock of parrots. Surprisingly, parrots are not native to the city, rather they came from countries such as Peru and other similar countries in the area. You can find a large flock usually at the Ferry Building if you keep an eye and ear open to their beautiful colours and sounds.
If you really want to surprise your date, why not take them to see some wild bison! Yes, if you visit the golden gate park you will indeed find a herd of bison in the park - gorgeous and stately to look at. This herd goes back to the 1800’s to preserve their population at the time. Speaking of that era, why not try to see the columbarium of San Francisco which dates back to the 19th century. Simply stunning to look at, and you can listen to all the ghost stories that come from a place such as this.
Average male income by age in San Francisco, California for a dinner date.
This of course varies considerably in San Francisco. There are some that spend a lot on a first date, and there are those who will treat you to a coffee and a cookie if you are lucky. So, in the end, it will be based on the location, personal preferences, and the restaurant itself.
Taking all that into consideration, the average cost of a dinner date in your city is $125- $150 dollars for an upscale experience in San Francisco. This includes dinner, drinks, desert. For a reasonable meal expect to pay $40 to $56. For those on a budget, one can expect to pay $31 for something decent from tacos, pizzas, burgers, etc.
Reasonable to Consider
Remember, there are always budget friendly options in San Francisco - not everyone needs to splurge on the first date, but it is a good idea to do so. No date wants to think of you as a budget friendly, thrifty, or cheap individual. If you like someone, nothing wrong in spending a few extra dollars more for a good meal and a good surrounding. It can make your dinner date much more impressionable, rewarding, and memorable. Iluv sugar mantra - when you can spend a little more, its always good to do so on the first sugar date in San Francisco, California.
