Where to take your date in the sun drenched city of San Jose, California.
When I think of San Jose, all I think of is computers and hockey. Yes, hockey. For some reason that Shark logo and the colour teal is forever etched in mind, and now in culture. How can you not miss the shark reference in popular cartoons as American Dad. I digress - now on to date night. First a bit of history for the non San Jose residents. San Jose is in the centre of Silicon Valley.
The city was founded in 1777, way back to the Spanish colonial era. Its name reflects a saint, Saint Joseph, who was known as a protector to travelers who were starting fresh in this new city. Today, San Jose is the third largest city in California, and they are proud of their melting pot with over 50 languages spoken. Which means one thing - some good food certainly exists in San Jose! Lets start with our date shall we.
Best place to take a picnic. There are quite a few parks you can take your date to. The first would be Emma Prush Farm Park. Why here you ask? Well, its quite large - 43 acres in seize - but more importantly quite a few things to see and do. The park is proud of having the largest barn in San Jose - I kid you not. In addition, it has some lovely gardens, designated picnic spots for you and your date, and some fruit orchards. A good place to spend the day for some good food on a picnic. Another park you can go for a picnic is Monopoly in the Park. Why here? Well you and your date can play a giant version of Monopoly. Takes a great selfie, and maybe a bit of fun can be had here before or after the picnic. Its so large that it is in Guinness Book of World Records.
Alum Rock park may be the place to go if you and your date our feeling a bit adventurous. It is a historic place going back all the way to 1777. It can be found in the Alum Rock Canyon area. The park is excellent for nature walks, with trails of over 20 kilometres. For the best views of the Santa Clara Valley I would suggest either the South Rim Trail or the North Rim Trail when visiting with your date. If you want to do more than a hike - they a have a small museum to catch you up not only with the history of the park, but as well learning about the plants and rocks within the park.
One thing I forgot to mention, which would make an excellent date suggestion, is that the park has mountain biking trails and Equestrian trails. You rarely see this in a park, much less the combination of the two. I would strongly suggest if your date has an interest in either, to try to the latter activities. Would be quite beautiful to do so in this gorgeous park. Speaking of gorgeous, nothing better than to look at the stars with a date. Why not head out to the Lick Observatory. A short ride of about 10 plus miles to get there from San Jose. The site goes back to 1888 and is one of the oldest parks in the state. You can take your date here to look at the stars, and learn quite a bit about them through web cameras at the Lick Observatory. The site is free, as our the tours.
If you are interested in strolling with your date in various exciting neighborhoods why not try Japan town. Its a few blocks away from City Hall, and the area has some great food and cultural insights into Japan and San Jose. Offering a variety of things to do here - such as discover landmarks that are considered historical and learn about the history and early settlers into San Jose by the Japanese. Or try some great food with your date - the options for great food are so many, it would be to review online which cuisine is best rated for you.
And, if you are lucky, try to see if you can catch one of the many festivals or events that take place in Japan town through the year. I forgot to add, one interesting activity for you and your date, quite unique I mad add are the many tea houses here. There is also a famous tea house which combines the art of tea with a bit British theatre of scones and sandwiches for making a British tea event. Perhaps a place to take your date if on an early afternoon date in San Jose?
One place that San Jose has that can be interesting for dates, and many others do not have is the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum. If your date loves ancient Egypt - and who doesn’t with all the Mummy movies from Hollywood - then this would be an interesting place to visit. First, when you arrive to the museum, you will notice the amazing architecture. One inside, you will have the pleasure of of viewing what the museum says is the largest collection of Egyptian antiquities. You can watch the exhibits unravel the evolution of this fascination time period and culture. My favorite exhibits to look t would the statues, but even more fun are the real mummies.
What about taking your date to the Winchester Mystery House? What is it? It is a house owned by Sarah Winchester widow of the famous rifle manufacturer William Winchester. Has there been a western in Hollywood that has never even mentioned the Winchester? An iconic name as they come. What’s interesting about this particular home? Well, since 1922 the home has been a stop for tourists to visit. Why? The home has an interesting design both a combination of Victorian and Gothic architecture. Legend has it that the owner, believed in ghosts. Ghosts from all the dead killed by the firearms of the family, who would haunt her forever. So, she spent her entire life trying to appease the ghosts by renovating the house and making it larger.
Within the house you can find staircases built that go nowhere. Walls that have doors, when opened, go into walls, along with hallways that are like tree branches. twisting and turning when you least expect it. The reason behind this architectural madness - is that she believed it may have confused the spirits. The house is huge with over 200 rooms and 10,000 windows - yes, 10,000 windows! So grab your date, take a tour, and have great date night here.
Finally, if the season is right, why not take your date to a hockey game. Nothing better than a cool night than watching the San Jose Sharks. How did they come up with their name? Surprisingly taken up by a large group of sharks that live off the coast - who would have known? Not only will your date be treated to a fun game of professional hockey, and some great food at the arena - you will also get a chance to get her a souvenir - a great Sharks hockey jersey.
Average male income by age in San Jose, California for a dinner date.
This of course varies considerably in San Jose. There are some that spend a lot on a first date, and there are those who will treat you to a coffee and a cookie if you are lucky. So, in the end, it will be based on the location, personal preferences, and the restaurant itself in San Jose, California.
Taking all that into consideration, the average cost of a dinner date in your city is $75- $160 dollars for an upscale experience in San Jose. This includes dinner, drinks, desert. For a reasonable meal expect to pay $48 to $56. For those on a budget, one can expect to pay $34 for something decent from tacos, pizzas, burgers, etc.
Reasonable to Consider
Remember, there are always budget friendly options in San Jose - not everyone needs to splurge on the first date, but it is a good idea to do so. No date wants to think of you as a budget friendly, thrifty, or cheap individual. If you like someone, nothing wrong in spending a few extra dollars more for a good meal and a good surrounding. It can make your dinner date much more impressionable, rewarding, and memorable. Iluv sugar mantra - when you can spend a little more, its always good to do so on the first sugar date in San Jose, California.
