What do you think when you first hear the name of Nashville? Country music, hot chicken sandwiches, and honky tonk bars? Well, lets take a deeper dive shall we. The nickname for Nashville is “Music City.” Nashville’s population sits around close to the 700,000 mark making it the 20th largest city in the United States. Its name comes from the General Francis Nash. The general participated in the American Revolutionary War, and the city first originated in 1779.
Where and what to do on a first date in Nashville. Well, there’s no escaping it - Nashville is a music town, so why not spend a few hours in the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. You may find something you like there of interest. At worst, you get to see and learn about the history of country music with your date. If country music is not your interest, then why not head over to the Parthenon. When I first heard about it, I said are you kidding me? and why? I am not sure if those two questions have been answered yet, but here it is in Nashville - a life size replica of the Greek Parthenon. Saying this is unique would be selling it and the experience a bit short. Inside there is also an art gallery to view some related art works and artifacts. Maybe spend an afternoon here with your date if you want to go back to the lands of ancient Greece right at your doorstep in Nashville, Tennessee.
Surprisingly or not, Nashville does have an Art Museum called the Frist Art Museum. Its known for its fine and diverse collection of visual arts. Its primary focus is primarily American art, although you will find also a substantial percentage on International works of art as well. They hold different theme events, and interactive workshops, so it may be an interesting spot to visit with your sugar date. Check the calendar to see what works and interests works best for you and your date.
What about heading to a park with your date? Not just any park but Cheekwood Botanical Garden, all 55 acres of Natures glory and beauty. Take your date here and walk and admire landscaped gardens, beautiful flowers, trees, and diverse plants in Nashville. As well, the garden also hosts all year round art exhibitions of various styles and periods. Right now, they have an amazing exhibition of the works of Degas - the impressionist genius. Add to that they also host interactive workshops, and if your visiting in the summer, then you can have summer tea with your date. Quite the place to visit on you sugar date - flowers, art, tea and if you like some good food as well. An all in one date experience in the heart of Nashville.
Always a fail safe date can be had at the Nashville Zoo. They have over 300 species to see and visit and a total of over 6000 animals at the zoo. They have some truly wonderful exhibits and animals to see - my favourites would be the clouded leopards and the gorgeous and cute red pandas. Take your date to see the red pandas and perhaps their cuteness will rub off a bit on you. They also have several interactive events which are always popular with the guests of the zoo. The favourites are the following - the Kangaroo Kickabout, and the River Tank Feeding. If you really want to impress your date here at the Nashville Zoo, then when not get you and your date a backstage pass tour - just like in the rock concerts. Except here at the zoo, it gets you backdoor of the zoo and to see what goes on behind the scenes. I have taken this package before and it is well worth it - both in what you and what you learn about the Nashville Zoo. There are some real specific back stage tours they offer - and they can be pricey so beware but if your date is in love with one of the following animals it could be a winner. The backstage pass can be found for the following animals - Rhino, Giraffe, Sloth, and the Giant Anteater.
What if you don’t want to the regular date spots with your sugar date - what else is there to do in Nashville? Well, lets see some out of the way spots and experiences that may make for an interesting date.
One of the spots locals say you have to visit would be the Pancake Pantry. Its a Nashville iconic diner that people swear make the best packages. With a name like Pancake Pantry it better. With over 23 different flavours, there is bound to be a flavour to make your date happy. Who wouldn’t be happy eating some pancakes at any time of the day?
What would be an interesting historical date would be to visit Andrew Jacksons home and gardens. You can actually take a day trip here. It was his plantation, and a historic one at that since he became the seventh US president. You can also learn more about his life, and tour the gardens as well. It may make for an interesting and fun out of the box date for a first time.
One of the more popular things to do in many city’s for tourists coming in for the first time - and especially if you are going on a date - is what is called the Trolley Car Tour. This is you classic hop on a Trolley Car - and stop and see various locales of the city of Nashville. This particular one will take you and your date to places such as the District - where you can find some great food and entertainment on your date. Of course you can take the whole sight seeing tour for your date - where the trolley will also stop at the Country Music Hall of Fame and a few other notable stops of Nashville. The great idea about the Trolley Tour is that is a hop on and off ride. Meaning, you get off where you like, explore, stroll, eat and get back on to your destination. Gives you great freedom to do what you and your date want to in the great city of Nashville.
I have to tell you off the bat, I am not a fan of country music. Well, I am a fan of the original Country music - Appalachian style, and that’s what reminds me of the Grand Ole Opry. Here you can take a date to see some true authentic country music, see some up and coming stars, and learn about the history and craft of the great American music institution.
Speaking of music, if country music is not your liking for you and your date, there is still plenty of music to see and hear. You can take a Night Trolley tour of Nashville. The city comes alive with sights and sounds at night, and would make for an interesting date to hop and stop in Nashville, and take in a few bars and musical acts while stopping and having a few drinks and food with your date. Definitely a a fun and varied way to spend a night time date in Nashville.
