Have you heard about the the app called Coffee Meets Bagel? Neither have we but it has gained popularity. Let’s take a closer look at this dating app to see if it has something different to offer.
The app started in 2012 - and has gained a large following. The total membership is over 10 million. The originators of the app were committed to making an app for people who wanted a committed relationship version an app that was for casual dating. That would explain the average age of the user - which is between 30 to 49, much much higher than the norm.
Question - aren’t most dating apps for committed relationships as well? It seems this app was designed for the female gender first and foremost based on the number of reviews of the site. Most reviewers saying the ease of use of this site is quite good. Signing up is fairly quick and painless, and there are many options at your fingertips. As well, the use of tabs is something many have commented on the site, making it easier to find what you are looking for.
Lets quickly look at membership cost. One month will run around 35 dollars, and if you go higher up the membership length, your price will decrease. Nothing new here - the standard membership package lengths and costs. So, on average, the cost of signing up is the same roughly as any other dating site.
Let’s look at their free trial offer. Free trial period last for 7 days, and it gives you access to the site, with limited features working to give you a taste and feel for the site. When we mean limited features, we mean limited. Since you can only give out a pre determined amount of messages in seven days. I am not a fan of that.
Now, lets take a closer look at the Premium features you get when you sign up at Coffee Meets Bagel. For the men every day they get 21 matches of women called bagels. The men they have 24 hours to decide if they like these bagels. I don’t like this - nothing more than a gimmick. Women bagels?
If you don’t like the match bagel idea, you always have their discover people near me option on your filter. This has the concept of beans to find a match you like. I get it - beans, coffee, bagel - where’s my cream cheese I wonder? This is too much on the nose to distinguish itself and I am not a buyer.
Especially, after paying a membership they still want to charge me an extra 50 beans in advance for send a message express to someone? Another way of charging you - is that instead of a like- the other person may see a “woo”. Which means the person who sent it to you is extra interested and motivated because they spent money on their extra likes symbol and the other person didn’t. Does someone thinks this works? That if a hot girl sent me a like, and less attractive girl sent me a woo, that I would choose the woo? No, do not like this feature at all.
Question of the day feature. When a member responds to a question they can then post a short video of themselves. This is similar to other sites story type postings. People can they view your recently posted video in the videos section. Meh.
The dreaded does my membership get charged
Why even ask this question - is there a dating that does NOT have automatic renewal membership as a feature. We will say it again here, buyer beware. You know there will always be a certain percentage of people who forget and it is simply free money to the dating app site. So, don’t be one of those people. Remember to cancel your membership before the trial runs out, or before your membership runs out.
What people love about the Coffee Meets Bagel
Members like to know they have a large dating pool to choose from. Coffee Meets Bagel has over 11 million people that are active on the site. That is a large pool and should satisfy more than any potential dater looking to join a dating site app.
How well is the matching algorithm on the website - is it any good. The site proclaims it has over 50 million matches since it started - an impressive number indeed. Even if half the numbers were accurate it would be a good indication that a relationship and love are possible on the site.
What did people say were the negatives
Some complained of the limited daily matches on the site. This results in less potential, which is never a good thing. Perhaps they took the philosophy better quality less quantity? Regardless, the limit is not that bad, although the user will have to decide for themselves if they wanted to be limited in their choices in the first place.
App
The site is one of the few were it is not accessible on the PC. Therefore you are plum out of luck if you prefer the PC. I found this move to be strange to limit your audience as such, however, that is an intentional strategy by Coffee Meets Bagel and seems to be working for them. For those who like to use the PC and large screens to see the photos, definitely not a site for you. There are other better choices available if you want to use the PC strictly on your relationship searches.
Auto Renewal
This has been brought up time and time again on every single dating app you will come across. It’s part of the beast, and you will never get rid of it, much less find another dating app that does not have it. As we said before, its free money to any site that uses it, and its part of your dating experience. Just be careful and it wont be an issue.
