Lets do a review of Tinder shall we? We all know and heard of the name - the inventor of the swipe left swipe right phenomena. Lets do a review of Tinder shall we?
We all know and heard of the name - the inventor of the swipe left swipe right phenomena - but, lets take a deeper dive into the app and see how it stacks up with the others shall we.
To sign up to the service is quite a simple and easy process as it should be. Average sign up times people have started between 5 to 15 minutes. The cost of tinder is quite cheap in the dating world - approximately $5 to $15 dollars depending on the variations of membership and features you want and ask for. How did they come up with the name tinder? Well, that’s simple enough - when you need a park, or a fire, you need something to ignite it - hence the word tinder. The service matchmaking has been around fairly long now since they early 2012’s. It was originally called Matchbox - hey, anyone tell Mattel - and the above states how they changed their name. A stroke of genius because matchbox stunk as a name to be frank.
Amount of members they have is 10 years existence and roughly 55 million people. The Average age of the Tinder user is between 18 and 35 which makes sense. Men are more likely to use the service more than woman - roughly a six to four ration. For the membership its the standard tiers of colours in the rainbow - platinum, gold and plus. Each price point is then further divided into sections depending on your length of use and your price point sensitivity. Nothing new or surprising here - standard and average, although lower than most - so that’s a good thing.
What is positive about the membership is that they give you a little bit of a free taste. You get to sign up and get a free trial period. They have a nice trick in feature here - once you sign up you have to provide a credit card. Once your trial ends, you have to cancel otherwise you will be charged automatically. A win win for the company, and a loss for those forgetting to cancel before their window is up. Lets see the reasons that fans of the service like to state as to why Tinder is such a great place to find like minded people. Well, the famous swipe left and swipe right which has gone into the lexicon of modern app language, is a good thing. Easy to use, easy to navigate, and nothing complicated about it. Always a good thing.
The amount of members. That is definitely a huge plus for its members and drawing card for new users. You have approximately 55 million users and growing now that is impressive. You will definitely find what you are looking for, and the turnover of new people is quite high. The only drawback here, is it too many people to search? If you want to know, it has been estimated there are over 1.5 billion swipes a day - incredible indeed.
Drawbacks
Reputation. Well, rightly or wrongly it got the reputation as a hook up place. You can call it casual encounters or whatever terminology you want to use, but in the school lexicon it was a booty call for attractive and not so attractive people to hook up on a whim. The site, and its fans will argue there is more to Tinder than that, and many happy relationship have started here to long live romance and marriage at times. Which is the ultimate goal they pledge. You will have to be the judge of that in the end, to see if the app suits your needs, and if there is any truth to this simply by judging on the type of replies you get.
Fake profiles. Many people complain about fake profiles. I am sure Tinder does it best, but there are people out there who love to post fake profiles - for various reasons - check mental illness as one - and you just have to grind through this negative feedback. Also another complaint is the negative charges philosophy/ i.e. if you forget to cancel your subscription you get automatically charged. Well girls and boys that is the way of the dating world app - they are they’re to take your money, and its just one of the many ways that it is done. Tinder was not the first, and they certainly wont be the last on this marketing ploy. Free trial really? Well, as you find out quickly enough there are severe limitations to your profile. You want that desert, well you cant have it, is the motto of tinder. How do I mean? Well, that famous swipe left and swipe right, does not exist for those who do not want to pay anything. A big, big let-down for some.
What about customer support? Well, like most apps, there is no live support. We would all love live support, who wouldn’t? Even if it came from the dreaded call centres around the world, we would take a live voice to hear our problems rather than a bot, or scroll through endless question and answer side sections. Ridiculous block. For our ridiculous block of the day is when on your free membership they will tell you that you have been liked. Great news you decree, except there is one catch, you don’t who liked you! For all you know it could be a bot, broom Hilda, or the men’s basketball team at your former high school. This is certainly a way to catch and make you pay - but you would think for a lousy 7 days you would allow the free user to enjoy some perks to get a better sense of your product.
There are always different choices to Tinder, some better or some worse. You can do a quick Google search and be inundated with suggestions and choices. For the average consumer you wont be put out or off by the app, and most likely you will find what you are looking for here.
